Stakeholders in environmental sector on friday called for attitudinal change and proper approach and efficient communication on waste disposal In Ibadan to achieve cleaner Ibadan city
This was the position of the keynote speakers and panelists at a townhall discussion organized by Jericho Men’s club as part of activities marking Ibadan week 2023.
The event was held at Ibadan house was themed Beautiful Ibadan City: The waste Management Agenda
Oyo state Governor, Engineer Oluseyi Makinde who was represented by the state commissioner for Information and tourism Dr Wasiu Olatubosun the government has engaged a new aproach to waste disposal and cleaner environment
While commending the Jericho Men’s Club and CCII for organizing the programm, Olatubosun sought for collaborations with stakeholders on waste management envangelism.
Also, the Chairman Oyo state waste management Taskforce Mrs Aderonke Adedayo in her remark said the government consider activists of the past administration as a mere cosmetics and inorder to have a result. the present administration decided to engage a consultant who is overseeing other PSP in the state.
Speaking on the need for getting value of the waste, Mrs. Adejoke Lasisi and Mrs Ifedolapo Runsewe, who are both part of the panelist emphasized on maximizing the value from wastes used by people. They added that with the large volume of waste generated in the Ibadan, the expectation is that Ibadan should focus its attention on efforts aimed at converting these wastes to wealth, to boost revenue generation.
Dr Wasiu Ajabe, the keynote speaker and Mr Kunle Adedoye, a waste expert from Lagos stressed on the need to be pragmatic with waste in the city. They appealed that the government should look into private sector partnership of monitoring and advocacy in order to combat problem of waste in Ibadan
Earlier in his welcome address, the President of JBC, Oloye Remi Babalola said a beautiful Ibadan has been the dream of Ibadan indigenes and residents alike and they believe this dream can be realized if citizens can identify the challenges, proffer solution and be able to implement the solutions within a framework that aligns with best practices in other cities of the world.
Present at the event includes the CCII President, Chief Adeaga, President Omo Ajorosun Chief Abiola Alli among other dignitaries.
