Oba Ghandi teeing of at the golf tournament

The Soun of Ogbomosoland, His Imperial Majesty, Oba Ghandi Afolabi Olaoye, Orumogege III, has reiterated his commitment to the development of sports in Ogbomosoland, describing sports as a vital tool for youth engagement, unity and community development.

The monarch made this known while speaking at the Oba Ghandi Golf Tournament and the finals of various sporting competitions organised as part of activities marking the 2025 Ogbomoso Cradles Carnival.

Apart from officially teeing off the golf tournament at the Ogbomosoland Recreation Club, the foremost traditional ruler also participated in table tennis and scrabble, drawing admiration from participants and spectators.

Addressing golfers and other participants at the event, Oba Ghandi emphasised the need for continuity of the sporting activities, assuring that his palace would continue to encourage youth participation and grassroots sports development across the ancient town.

According to him, sports not only promote physical fitness but also foster discipline, teamwork and positive social interaction among young people.

Golfers from different parts of Oyo State converged on Ogbomoso to participate in the tournament, making the event one of the highlights of the 2025 Cradles Carnival.

Prizes and awards are expected to be presented to outstanding participants and winners at the conclusion of the games.
