Executive Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Mr. Abdulrasheed Bawa has admonished students across the country, to shun corrupt practices, in both little and big things, stressing that no corrupt act is justifiable.
He stated this in Abuja on at the launch of an Integrity Club at Government Secondary School, Bwari. The EFCC boss, who spoke through Deputy Director ,Creative Engagement, Deputy Commander of the EFCC, DCE Nwanyinma Okeanu, noted that, “in the particular instance of a school environment, corruption manifests in the following unhealthy practices: lying, examination malpractices, internet fraud, stealing pens and pencils, books and any other things that does not belong to you. In short, corruption shows up when you cut corners and throw good conduct to the dogs.”
He therefore enjoined the students to desist from every act of corruption, no matter how little it may look or sound, and embrace rules and regulations of the Club and in the process, make Nigeria better and greater.
Speaking earlier in his welcome address, the Vice Principal, (Academics) of the School, Mr. Majin Nwa said corruption had become the order of the day and commended the efforts of President Muhammadu Buhari for frontally fighting the menace. He urged the students to compliment the government’s efforts by desisting from all forms of unhealthy practices, stressing that with the launch of the Club in schools, students will begin to serve as vanguard in tackling the menace.
Also at the launch of the Club, Head of Enlightenment and Reorientation Unit of the Commission, Aisha Mohammed, charged students to be of good character and serve as ambassadors and foot soldiers of the Commission. “We want you to be EFCC’s ambassadors and foot soldiers. When you see something going wrong, stop it as EFCC cannot be everywhere”.
