In a chilling turn of events, the prime suspect in the abduction and murder of Professor Femi Olaofe, the former Deputy Vice Chancellor of Ekiti State University, has confessed that the victim’s own security guard was the one who invited the gang to carry out the crime.

Professor Olaofe was kidnapped on July 9th, 2024, from his residence at the Federal Housing Estate in Ado-Ekiti. His lifeless body was later discovered in a shallow grave on July 30th, located off Afao Road, behind the new Airport site in the city.

According to a statement from the Ekiti State Police Command, the suspect, Omowaye Ayodele, also known as A.Y., was arrested at Bencom Guest House in Akure, Ondo State. During interrogation, Ayodele confessed to the crime and implicated several accomplices, including Kenneth, Amodu Gbenga a.k.a. Toro, Nnamani Chukwuka a.k.a. Amechi, and Ojo a.k.a. Ojo Ijan.

Shockingly, Ayodele revealed that the security guard of the victim, Abdul Opotu, was the one who invited the gang to kidnap Professor Olaofe. Contrary to earlier reports, Opotu was not kidnapped alongside the professor, but rather, he “only played along and made the operation easier for them.”

Further investigation led to the arrest of Amodu Gbenga a.k.a. Toro, who also confessed to his involvement in the crime. Toro admitted to supplying food and water to the gang members while they were hiding in a bush behind Government College, off Ijan Road, Ado-Ekiti.

The search for the remaining suspects, including the security guard who allegedly orchestrated the entire plot, is ongoing. The Ekiti State Police Commissioner, CP Akinwale Kunle Adeniran, has vowed to ensure that all those involved in this heinous act are brought to justice.

The body of Professor Femi Olaofe has been exhumed and is now at the Ekiti State Teaching Hospital morgue, awaiting an autopsy to determine the cause of death.
