Senator Buhari’s Bill Seeking to Revamp Nigerian Railway Corporation Passes Second Reading

A bill seeking to revamp The Nigeria Railway Act(Cap N129 Laws of Federation of Nigeria 2011 ) and enact Nigerian Railway Corporation Act 2020
sponsored by Senator Buhari Abdulfatai sailed through the Second Reading today at the plenary .

Senator Buhari in the bill maintained that railway transport is the strong base of social and industrial activities in both developed and developing countries.

Buhari who is the chairman, Senate Committee on Land Transport argues that many damages and accidents that happen on roads are caused by frequent use by heavily loaded long trucks

The All Progressives Congress APC Chieftain added that there would be greater improvement in transport sector and if the parliament comes up with a good legal framework that will enhance the revival of Nigeria railways system in order to make railway a cheaper alternative to road in transportation of persons,goods and animals.

The bill was unanimously supported by the entire Senate after painstaking exposition of its provisions by Senator Buhari and encouraging contributions from other senators
