Former Osun Deputy Governor, Sen. Iyiola Omisore, spent the early hours of the New Year day, visiting wards of the Obafemi Awolowo University Teaching Hospital (OAUTH), Ile-Ife, and paying bills of patients, totaling N2 million.

Speaking on the gesture, Omisore said that nobody wished to be in the hospital bed on a glorious day like the beginning of the year.

“I’m doing this for those who are hospitalized and are certified fit to go home but who cannot because they have bills to settle.

“These people have loved ones to be at home with, enjoying rice, pounded yam, meat, chicken, fish and gush it down with drinks but they cannot because of the bills they have to settle,” he said.

This, Omisore said, was why he had to show love, affection, and empathy to them.

“I want to appreciate the management of this world-class hospital for their service to humanity, as diverse people across the country are receiving healthcare from the facility.

“In all, 11patients were discharged, with about N2 million paid,” he said.

In his reaction, the Chief Medical Director of OAUTH, Prof. Victor Adetiloye, acknowledged Omisore’s gesture of coming to the aid of the patients on annual basis.

He said that the entire hospital community was always happy with the philanthropy of the former Senate Committee Chairman on Appropriation.

“Omisore facilitated the construction of some of the modern buildings we have in this hospital.

“He is not doing this for ego boosting, as we have many other affluent persons in the community who can do same. Rather, he is doing so for humanity and based on compassion,” he said.

ENDS.
