Security Guard Convicted for Stealing Forfeited Property in Kaduna

Justice A.A Bello of the Kaduna State High Court sitting in Kaduna, has convicted and sentenced one Abdul_Bari Yakubu to two years imprisonment on one count charge bordering on dealing in forfeited property.

The defendant, a former personnel of Kaduna State Vigilance Service, KADVS, was arrested by the Kaduna Zonal Command of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, on March 13, 2023 after he allegedly stole a 34″ Samsung Television set from Halal Fountain Hotel Annex, a property under interim forfeiture.

The one-count amended charge reads:” that you Abdul_Bari Yakubu on or about 13th March, 2023 at Kaduna, within the jurisdiction of the Kaduna State High Court, without consent of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission with the intention to permanently deprived Halal Fountain Hotel Annex, situate at Rabah Road, Kaduna, dishonestly took property (subject of an interim order of forfeiture) to wit;(32″) Samsung Television set, thereby committed theft, an offence contrary to Section 270(1) and punishable under Section 271 of the Kaduna State Penal Code Law, 2017”.

The defendant pleaded guilty to the charge when it was read to him. Justice Bello convicted and sentenced him to two years imprisonment or a fine of N160,000.00.
