Former Vice President of Nigeria, Arc. Mohammed Namadi Sambo, GCON, has firmly denied rumours circulating in the media suggesting that he has defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
In a press statement issued on behalf of the former Vice President by his former media adviser, Umar Sani, the report was described as “entirely false and without any basis.”
The rebuttal came in response to widespread claims backed by a circulated photograph allegedly showing Sambo with the Governor of Kaduna State, Senator Uba Sani. However, the statement clarified that the image in question was taken several years ago during a condolence visit to Sambo’s residence in Abuja, following the passing of his brother, the late Sani Sambo. It is now being “deliberately misrepresented” to suggest a political alignment that does not exist, the statement noted.
“For the avoidance of doubt, His Excellency, Arc. Mohammed Namadi Sambo remains a loyal and committed member of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP). He has no intention of joining any other political party,” Sani stated.
The former Vice President is expected to attend the commissioning of a 300-bed hospital in Kaduna on Thursday, June 19, 2025 — a project he initiated during his tenure in office. Sani emphasized that Sambo’s attendance at the event is purely in a statesman capacity and should not be misinterpreted as a political endorsement or shift.
Describing the defection story as a “figment of the imagination of its authors,” the statement urged the media and the public to disregard the claim and treat it “with the contempt it deserves.”
The rebuttal comes amid heightened political tensions and speculation as the 2027 general elections gradually draw closer.
