The coalition of local government workers in Ogbomoso Zone, known as Ogo Ogbomoso, on Thursday hosted a colourful grand reception in honour of Hon. Bashorun Akinwale Akinwole (popularly known as Wolekanle), the newly appointed Chairman of the Oyo State Local Government Service Commission (LGSC).

The well-attended event, held at Lagbami Osekun Civic Hall, Ogbomoso South Local Government, drew stakeholders from across the state, including the Zonal Permanent Secretary of LGSC, top officials of the Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE), religious leaders, traditional rulers, and local government executives.

Speaking at the event, the Chairman of Ogo Ogbomoso, Mr. Adegboyega Adeniran, described Hon. Wolekanle as “a consistent and dedicated figure in Oyo State’s political landscape,” applauding Governor Seyi Makinde for appointing an illustrious son of Ogbomoso into such a strategic office.

“This appointment is not just a win for Ogbomoso but for the entire local government service in Oyo State,” Adeniran stated. “Wolekanle’s leadership brings hope for positive transformation.”

The reception, he noted, was a triple celebration—marking Wolekanle’s appointment, his recent birthday, and his housewarming.

In his remarks, the Permanent Secretary of the Commission, Deacon Taiwo Adewale, praised the governor’s decision, describing Wolekanle as “a round peg in a round hole,” citing his generosity, intelligence, and empathy as key attributes that will aid his tenure.

“He listens. He leads with empathy. His Excellency did not make a mistake with this appointment,” Adewale added.

Other dignitaries at the event included Hon. George Ogunlade (Chairman, Ogbomoso North LG), Hon. Isaiah Adegbite (Chairman, Surulere LG), and Hon. Mujidat Kareem (Vice Chairman, Ogbomoso South LG), who all commended the Makinde-led administration for its consistent salary payments and commitment to workers’ welfare.

In a spiritual charge, Bishop David Moradeyo of the Methodist Diocese of Ogbomoso urged members of Ogo Ogbomoso to remain united and steadfast in their service to the state, saying, “protect, defend, and support the glory in your midst.”

NULGE State President, Comrade Olusegun Adegun, also commended Governor Makinde for prioritizing workers’ interests, describing Wolekanle as “a true representation of the governor’s vision for grassroots development.”

In an emotionally charged response, Wolekanle expressed deep gratitude for the overwhelming show of support and reaffirmed his commitment to discipline, professionalism, and inclusive leadership.

“I am committed to justice, probity, and equity as enshrined in the LGSC law. I am pleased to announce that 21 senior officers — including 9 substantive Heads of Local Government Administration and 12 Acting Heads — have just been elevated, many of them from Ogbomoso. Their posting instructions will be released today without delay,” he revealed.

He further urged stakeholders to freely offer feedback and constructive criticism to enhance the performance of the Commission.

The event also featured goodwill messages from heads of local government administrations, traditional leaders, and other community stakeholders.
