The Right Prayer Group reaffirmed its reputation for thoughtful engagement and intellectual discourse as it hosted a compelling Ramadan lecture in Abuja.

Led by its founder, Sheikh Abdur-Rauf Abdul-Hameed Oloriomokewu, the gathering drew Muslims from various social and professional backgrounds, strengthening its standing as a platform where spiritual devotion meets civic responsibility.

The event, held at the Conference Hall of the National Mosque in Abuja, attracted a large audience eager to reflect on key religious and national issues. Central to the discussion was the need for better understanding and more consistent observance of Zakat among Muslim faithful.

In his address, Sheikh Oloriomokewu described Zakat as more than a religious obligation, portraying it as a divinely guided economic framework designed to combat poverty, ensure equitable wealth distribution, and promote social balance. He emphasized that when effectively practiced, Zakat becomes a sustainable system of social welfare capable of reducing economic disparities and strengthening communal unity.

Beyond religious observance, the lecture also examined current national tax reforms. Speakers explored how fiscal policies align with ethical and faith-based economic principles, encouraging dialogue on fairness, accountability, and social justice. The discussion highlighted how Islamic economic teachings—particularly the institution of Zakat—can provide moral guidance in shaping transparent and people-centered tax systems.

The attendance of senators, senior government officials, and national media representatives underscored the broader significance of the event. Their presence reflected acknowledgment of the role religious institutions can play in contributing meaningfully to public policy conversations.

In a period marked by economic adjustments and debates over taxation, the programme reinforced a powerful message: Islam offers a holistic framework that extends beyond worship, advocating justice, good governance, and compassion for society’s most vulnerable members.

Through initiatives like this, the Right Prayer Group continues to position itself as a voice of thoughtful engagement—demonstrating that faith remains an active and relevant force in addressing contemporary national challenges
