Tragedy struck at Ekiti State University (EKSU), Ado-Ekiti, on Monday as a Deputy Registrar and candidate for the position of Registrar, Dr. Solomon Oluwasola Afolabi, reportedly died during an aptitude test conducted as part of the selection process for the appointment.
According to sources within the university, Dr. Afolabi allegedly cried out in distress while participating in the exercise, causing panic among fellow candidates and officials at the venue.
He was immediately rushed to the university’s health centre for medical attention but was later confirmed dead by healthcare personnel.
The deceased was said to be among the leading contenders for the Registrar position, a key administrative office whose appointment is the responsibility of the university’s Governing Council, headed by the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of Council.
The incident has left members of the university community shocked, with many expressing disbelief over the sudden development. Sources described the circumstances surrounding his death as unusual, noting that he appeared to be actively participating in the exercise before the incident occurred.
A university staff member, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said Dr. Afolabi was widely regarded as one of the strongest candidates in the race for the Registrar position.
.The remains of the deceased have reportedly been deposited at a morgue pending further investigations and necessary procedures.
