In a significant crackdown on criminal activities, operatives of the Nigeria Police Force have rescued 13 individuals from kidnappers and apprehended five suspected armed robbers during recent operations in Lagos and Kwara States.
Force Public Relations Officer, Olumuyiwa Adejobi in a statement said
On December 27, 2024, the Kwara State Command swiftly mobilized to the Idofin-Igbana region after receiving reports of an abduction involving 13 persons.
“Police operatives confronted the kidnappers, who resisted arrest but were ultimately overpowered. Despite the suspects fleeing with various injuries, the rescue operation successfully freed all kidnapped victims.”
The following day, on December 28, Lagos State Command responded to a public disturbance at Pinnacle Depot in Lekki, where they arrested two men, identified as 38-year-old Lawan Mustapha and Aina Daniel. A subsequent search of their possession turned up a double-barrel rifle, 90 live cartridges, and five model rifles. Both suspects are currently detained for further investigation and subsequent prosecution.
Later that same day, at approximately 12:45 PM, officers in GRA Ikeja apprehended three additional suspected armed robbers. Their arrest led to the recovery of one locally-made pistol, four live cartridges, and two cutlasses. These suspects are also in custody and will face legal action once investigations are completed.
Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, Ph.D., NPM, emphasized the Nigeria Police Force’s ongoing commitment to combatting kidnapping, armed robbery, and other violent crimes. He assured the public that the force will continue utilizing all available resources to enhance the safety and security of all citizens.
