The Nigeria Police Force has reiterated its commitment to enforcing the Mandatory Third-Party Insurance policy, with full implementation set to begin nationwide on February 1, 2025.
This follows the directive of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, Ph.D., NPM, aimed at ensuring road safety and compliance with insurance regulations. The policy mandates all vehicle owners to possess valid Third-Party Insurance, a requirement designed to protect both motorists and the general public in the event of accidents.
The police have warned that non-compliance will attract strict enforcement actions, including fines and other penalties as stipulated by law. In preparation for the implementation, IGP Egbetokun has directed all State Commissioners of Police to oversee due enforcement, empowering officers nationwide to conduct checks and apply penalties where necessary.
“Effective February 1, all vehicle owners must have valid Third-Party Insurance. Those without it are strongly advised to obtain one to avoid any form of embarrassment,” the police statement emphasized.
The Nigeria Police Force reaffirmed its dedication to improving road safety and protecting citizens through the enforcement of traffic laws. The public has been urged to cooperate fully with law enforcement officers to ensure the smooth implementation of the policy.
