The Ayedero of Yorubaland and former member of the House of Representatives, Hon. Shina Peller, has congratulated the newly appointed Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Ridwan Disu, describing his emergence as a defining moment for the Nigeria Police Force (NPF).
In a statement issued to journalists on Wednesday, March 4, 2026, Peller said the appointment of IGP Disu comes at a crucial period in Nigeria’s security landscape, expressing optimism that his leadership will usher in intelligence-driven policing, institutional discipline, and enhanced accountability.
According to Peller, the decision to elevate Disu reflects the administration’s commitment to competence, professionalism, and reform within the police system. He noted that the new IGP’s reputation for integrity and operational excellence positions him to set a new benchmark for transparency and effectiveness in the Force.
“Your established record of accountability and professionalism embodies the vision of a renewed Nigeria Police Force,” Peller stated. “Your leadership offers hope that improved discipline, transparency, and operational excellence are within reach.”
Peller also referenced Disu’s extensive experience in high-profile security assignments, including his tenure as Commander of the Lagos Rapid Response Squad (RRS) and head of the Intelligence Response Team (IRT), describing him as a cerebral and reform-minded officer well suited to drive meaningful change.
He urged the new police chief to prioritize human rights, fairness, and community collaboration in the discharge of his duties, stressing that public trust remains central to effective policing.
“As you assume this office, may your tenure be guided by wisdom, justice, and integrity. May you inspire greater professionalism within the Force and strengthen citizens’ confidence in law enforcement nationwide,” he added.
The former lawmaker further expressed confidence that Disu’s operational background in Lagos and the Federal Capital Territory would prove invaluable as the NPF navigates ongoing conversations around decentralization and state policing.
Peller concluded by wishing the IGP strength, divine direction, and outstanding success in his new assignment.
