In order to positively engaged and discover sports talents among students in Oyo State ahead the forthcoming National Youth Games and other national sporting activities, the Oyo State Sports Council has kick-started a summer holiday sports training programme at the Lekan
Salami Sports Complex, Adamasingba, Ibadan.
The event according to a statement signed by the Acting General Manager, Adegboyega Makinde stated that it is necessary to positively engage the school pupils during the long school’s vacation with rewarding vocations such as sporting activities especially now that the state is recruiting athletes for the Youths Games.
“We are taking advantage of the summer holiday to engage the young ones, especially those who have been doing one sport or the other and those who are aspiring to engage in sporting activities to prepare them and discover new talents from the exceptional ones for future
competitions”.
The statement further stated that:”In addition to the sports training, we have entered into partnership with an art gallery outfit to complement it with the training of participants in the areas of drawing, painting and crafts for the purpose of building bridge across the boundary between arts and sports”.
Meanwhile the Sports Council boss also received the victorious Oyo State Kickboxing team that returned from the recently concluded National Kickboxing Championship at National Stadium Surulere, Lagos where Oyo Team carted home two Gold three Silvers and 4 Bronze Medals.
The GM and The Director Sports and Training Mr. Popoola Babatunde were full of thanks to the Oyo State Kickboxing Coach Gabriel Kolawole Kingsley who led the team to the victorious outing.
