The Oyo state chapter of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has lamented that the death of immediate past governor of the state, Senator Abiola Ajimobi, was an unbelievable reality starring in the face of everyone.

The ruling party in a press statement signed by its state publicity secretary, Engr Akeem Olatunji, and made available to journalists in Ibadan on Friday (today), described Ajimobi’s death as very sad and unfortunate.

According to the statement, Oyo PDP described late Ajimobi as one of illustrious sons of Ibadanland with special grace upon him adding that part of evidence of such special grace gave the ex governor the credit of a jinx breaker having served as the first governor ever in the history of Oyo state to serve two terms of four years each.

Oyo PDP noted that even though politics placed the late governor and the the ruling party at opposing divides, his contributions to state and national development as governor and Deputy National Chairman of APC while in office could not be overlooked.

The statement reads in part: “we, the entire Oyo state PDP family are deeply saddened and bereaved of one of the most accomplished and illustrious sons of Ibadanland, a leader, a jinx breaker, a compatriot, a father, a brother, and a friend, who passed on today 25th of June on account of COVID-19.

“Words may never be able to capture our deepest sadness as a people and as a political party with deep sense of brotherhood regardless of political divides.

“The news of former governor Abiola Ajimobi’s passing got to us with rude shock which can best be described as unbelievable reality that stares in our faces helplessly.

It is no gainsaying that the former governor served both the nation as a Senator of the federal republic and also served the state as governor leaving indelible mark upon some of which our government is building on.

“It is an established fact that death is an inevitability for human beings but the death of Ajimobi is inarguably one death too many.

“We, the entire PDP family and Oyo state at large are particularly saddened by the fact that year 2020 has brought so much bitter pills so hard to swallow into our mouths beginning with the death of one of PDP’s founding fathers in Nigeria, late Chief Richard Akinjide to former Speaker, Oyo state house of assembly and immediate past Commissioner For Environment And Natural Resources, Rt Honourable Kehinde Ayoola, and now former governor Abiola Ajimobi.

“We pray that God should grant the departed soul eternal rest, and we have faith in God to give the entire members of the All Progressives Congress, both at state and national levels the grace to surmount this painful time.

“We can not question the will of God because He is the All Knowing God but we take comfort in the legacies and family the former governor left behind.

The ruling party in Oyo state, commiserates with the entire Ajimobi family and we prayed God grant them the fortitude to bear the irreplaceable loss.”
