Oyo NDLEA Arrests 57 Suspects With Drugs Related Offences in Three Months

National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, Oyo State Command has arrested (fifty-seven) suspects and seized a total of 169.71kg of various drugs including Cannabis sativa, Cocaine, Diazepam, Rohypnol, Bromatan, Tramadol and Colorado In the first quarter of year 2020

23 (twenty-three)suspects were also prosecuted convicted and sentenced to various jail terms ranging from six months to five years.

The command under the leadership of Barr. Josephine Ruth Obi, Commander of Narcotics, also recovered one locally made pistol and one bloodstained army jackknife.

The command’s PRO Mutiat Okuwobi in a statement said the suspects arrested with the pistol and jackknife along with their exhibits, were transferred to the Police for further action.

The statement reads further: “The Command gave brief counseling intervention to 35 (thirty five)people who use drugs. Out of 9 (nine) clients undergoing residential rehabilitation in our Command, three (3) have been successfully rehabilitated and integrated back to the society.”

” In a bid to involve all stakeholders in the campaign to save youths from the destruction of their lives through drug abuse and illicit trafficking, the command also embarked on advocacy visits to some Ministries in the State, Vice Chancellors of some tertiary institutions, companies within the metropolis and Royal Fathers including the Olubadan of Ibadan, the Alaafin of Oyo, the Soun of Ogbomosoland, and the Onpetu of Ijeruland

The Command also gave drug abuse preventive lectures to pupils and students of 6 six primary and 29 secondary schools across the State.

The State Commander however urges Parents and guardians to be vigilant and proactive to keep their children and wards off drugs and help people who use drugs (PWUD) to use this period of restriction to break the habit. Stay home, stay clean and stay off drugs
