Excitement as Agboworin Flags Off Construction Of N1bn Kajola-Irede-Odinjo-Alake Road In Ibadan

In continuation of his contributions to the growth of the people of Ibadan North East/South East Federal Constituency, Rep. Abass Adigun, popularly known as Agboworin, on Friday, flagged off the construction of 1.6km Kajola-Irede-Odinjo-Alake road, around Academy area of Ibadan.

Agboworin, who received a rousing welcome while performing the ceremony at Academy, Ibadan North East local government area of Oyo State, noted that the project would bring about significant improvement to the community and enhance smooth connectivity within the area.

He added that the road construction, which was awarded to Bamidele Engineering Nig. Ltd at a sum of One Billion Naira (1,000,000,000) for a completion period of three months, would curb menace of gridlock that usually characterise vehicular movement on the road.

The lawmaker used the opportunity to assure the people, once again, that he would keep providing the constituency with good infrastructure and quality representation as long as his tenure lasted.

Agboworin, while acknowledging the pivotal role played by the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Tajudeen Abass Ph.D, in bringing the substantial road project to fruition, said the construction would not only transform the area but also enhance quality of life of the people around the axis.

He explained that the project was borne out of his commitment to always complement Governor Seyi Makinde’s efforts on infrastructural development and improving the socioeconomic activities of the state.

Agboworin reiterated his vows to fulfilling promises made during the electioneering period in different sectors, noting the importance of infrastructure as the backbone of a thriving society.

While calling on the contractor to complete the project within the stipulated time of three months for the benefit of his constituents, Agboworin equally urged the community to cooperate fully with the contractor to ensure speedy completion.

In his words: “I thank God today for this event, being the flag off of 1.6km road construction. I know that this project, which would benefit a lot of people within the community, is very important to us because it will reduce the traffic congestion from Olomi to Odinjo and Eleta.

“This project is for the community and for everyone. I am not embarking on it because I am a member of the People’s Democratic Party. No. As far as I am concerned, it will also be useful for other people from other parties.

“I want to also thank everyone who has supported us from the beginning to this moment because I have been on it for the past two years and, today, I thank God and those he has used to bring the project into fruition.

“By the time we are done within the space of three months, we will still invite everyone to join us in the commissioning of the project.”

A community leader identified as Mr Adekola, who also spoke at the event, appreciated the lawmaker for giving back to the community, saying “Agboworin remains a God-sent personality, who puts the interest of the people at heart in his dealings.”

Alhaji Basiru Alade Bamiduro, who is the Chairman of Irepodun Landlords Association at Odinjo area, equally expressed happiness at the development, calling for continuous support for the lawmaker.

“I became very happy when I heard our Federal Rep, Agboworin, wanted to construct this road for us. Since then, I have been praying for him because this will bring much relief to those of us living in this community. So, I pray that God will continue to help him to do more of us,” He stated.

The Project Manager, Usman Olawale, in his brief remark, noted that the quality of the road can be compared with the best in the country, assuring that the project would be done perfectly.

Oriire Kidnapping: Stop Politicising Amotekun Casualty Figures, Oyelade Tells Opposition

The Oyo State Government has cautioned opposition politicians against politicising the recent kidnapping incident in Oriire Local Government Area, insisting that misleading narratives about the state security outfit, Amotekun Corps, are unhelpful to ongoing efforts to tackle insecurity. The Commissioner for Information, Prince Dotun Oyelade, made the appeal in a statement issued on Thursday, saying Governor Seyi Makinde's recent disclosure that about 200 operatives of the Oyo State Security Network Agency (Amotekun Corps) had died since the organisation's establishment six years ago was being deliberately misrepresented. According to Oyelade, some opposition elements had wrongly linked the figure to the recent abduction of pupils and teachers in Oriire, thereby creating a false impression that the casualties occurred during the incident. He described the interpretation as "cheap politics," stressing that no Amotekun operative lost his life in connection with the Oriire kidnapping. "For the opposition to turn the statistics on its head is nothing but cheap politics. Amotekun has not lost a single operative in the Oriire kidnapping incident. The only casualty recorded was a personnel who sustained injuries and is currently recuperating," he stated. The commissioner explained that the 200 deaths recorded since the creation of the corps in 2020 resulted from various causes, including illnesses, natural causes and fatalities sustained during security operations. He added that due procedures were followed in all cases, including notification of the families of deceased personnel. Oyelade maintained that the Oyo State Amotekun Corps remains the most funded and best-equipped security outfit in the South-West, noting that it currently operates 181 vehicles and 450 motorcycles, with a workforce of more than 2,500 personnel. He said the corps is the largest Amotekun formation in the region and one of the best remunerated. The commissioner further recalled that Governor Makinde had consistently advocated state policing and the deployment of superior weapons to security agencies since 2021 to enable them effectively confront bandits and kidnappers. According to him, the governor's repeated calls have received little attention despite the growing security challenges across the country. Oyelade urged political actors to approach the security situation from a non-partisan perspective and avoid statements capable of undermining rescue efforts or endangering lives. He also appealed to residents of the state to continue supporting the government and security agencies in their efforts to maintain peace and security across Oyo State.
