Oyo Govt. Approves N832.6m to Procure 100 Units Vehicles for Security Agencies

The Oyo State Government through its State Executive Council, has approved the procurement of 100 units vehicles for security agencies in the state.

The Commissioner for Information, Culture and Tourism, Dr Wasiu Olatunbosun disclosed this to journalists at the end of the first executive council meeting on Tuesday.

Olatubosun also hinted that the council approved the distribution of exercise books for pupils and students of public primary and secondary schools.

On the vehicles, the Commissioner said the council approved procurement of 100 units of KIA Rio 1.4 Executive Automatic Transmission vehicles.

He stated further that N832,650,000 was earmarked for the purchase, stressing that adequate provision of security of lives and property of the people was paramount to the Makinde administration.

He added that the initiative to procure the vehicles to enhance the performance of the security agents was in accordance with the campaign promise of the governor.

He explained that the presence of security men on roads would deter criminals, ”therefore it become necessary to make provision for the vehicular movement of the security operatives round the nook and cranny of the state.

”The governor also made arrangement with the supplier of the vehicles to bring KIA Service Centre to the state and partner with the government on maintenance of all the vehicles to be purchased.”

Olatubosun further noted that the council approved distribution of six exercise books for every pupil/ students of public primary and secondary schools across the state.

He said each pupil and student in primary one to JSS 3 in secondary schools in public Schools would be given Six exercise books (60 leaves) while students in SS 1-3 would also get six exercise books but 80 leaves.

”In line with the free education programme of the Makinde administration, the executive council believe that not only payment of school fees or other fees is determinant of free education.

”We believe that further step should be taken; that is, getting students and pupils in the public schools writing materials,” He stated.

The commissioner disclosed that enrolment of pupils/students in public primary and junior secondary schools was 252,644 while 211,157 students are in Senior secondary schools.

He said that N447.2million would be spent in providing the exercise books for all the students.

He however reiterated the commitment of the present government to provide quality education.
