The Oyo state House of Assembly Service Commission (OYHASC) has trained official reporters, confidential secretaries and secretarial assistants in the legislative service.
The training which was divided into three sessions was held on Thursday, at the premises of the House of Assembly complex, in Ibadan, the state capital.
While speaking, the chairman of the commission, Rt Hon Abdulwasi Musah said the commission has impacted positively in the life of members of staff.
He added that regular training and retraining have been done by the commission under his leadership adding that the commission has embarked on training of inter-cadre and departmental training.
Musah said that the commission wants to make members of staff of the legislative service best and to be model for all other staff in the state.
He commended the House of Assembly committee on Service matters under the chairmanship of Hon Babajide Gabriel.
His words: “When we came on board, we met the work force of staff that had so many things affecting their career and there was nobody to attend to them. Because with the autonomy of the legislative service, anything that has to do with career progression of our staff has been taken away from the mainstream civil service. It has been the responsibility of the House of Assembly Service Commission. At a time when there was no management in the commission, our staff suffered.
“So when we came on board, we started on that note and within a very short period of time, the commission under my chairmanship has impacted positively in the life of our staff. Before we came on board, there was nothing like training and retraining our staff but ever since we came on board, we have been having this training on a regular basis.
“Before we started training our staff on departmental or inter-cadre level, we have had general training of staff and if I’m not mistaken, this is the 6th or 7th of such training that we will have. And by the special grace of God, our intention is to be having inter-cadre training almost on a monthly basis because we want to have a productive work force. We want our staff to be the best, we want them to be the model to all other commissions in the state. And I believe that with the cooperation of the management staff of the House of Assembly and House of Assembly Service Commission, we will achieve that aim.”
The first session of the training titled ‘Health Management Approach For Personnel In The Legislative Service Of Oyo State’ was presented by Dr Famakin Monday who represented Dr Muideen Olatunji, Executive secretary, Oyo State Primary Health Care Development Agency.
While speaking, he itemized work ergonomics and the corrective strategies to physical health challenges. He urged participants to ensure routine screening test to check their wellness.

Adenrele said promoting interpersonal relationships in the workplace is the responsibility of every employee adding that communication is the key to the overall sucees of interpersonal relationships.
