Ahead of the All Progressives Congress, (APC) primary to pick its candidate for next year governorship election, lawmakers in the Oyo State House of Assembly have endorsed one of the aspirants for the ticket, Chief Adeniyi Akintola, (SAN).
The lawmakers spoke about Chief Akintola in glowing terms during his recent visit to the House of Assembly.
Chief Akintola was a member of the Oyo State House of Assembly between
1991/ 92 and served as Deputy Speaker and Chairman, Oyo State House of Assembly Committee on Public Petitions & Judiciary.
In an apparent show of comradeship, the lawmakers said having a former lawmaker as governor of the state would foster the existing cordial relationship between the Executive and Legislative arm in the
State.
Chairman of Parliamentary Affairs Committee of the House, Honorable Segun Ajanaku described Chief Akintola as a role model in legislative business and parliamentary leadership.
He said:’’ If it were to be that party nomination for governorship is
like that of nomination for political appointment the House would ask
Chief Akintola to take a bow and leave, which mean it’s a done deal.”
He however assured the leading aspirant that the lawmakers would do the needful at the appropriate time.
In her contribution, Honorable Olawunmi Bimbo Oladeji, representing Ogbomosho North spoke in same vein as she applauded Chief Akintola’s
aspiration.
”I know you served us well in this House because you were once a member and leader. You know the nitty- gritty of parliamentary job and governance”. She advised the aspirant to extend his consultations to other party Leaders in the state.
Honorable Segun Olaleye equally spoke in glowing terms about Chief Akintola and the latter declaration to submit himself to the outcome of the party primary.
“You impressed me with your statement that even if you are not picked, you will still remain a progressive, you are one of best
politicians we have around now. You also said politicians should be able keep to their promises.’’
Earlier in his remarks, the aspirant applauded the lawmakers for the
existing warming relationship between them and governor Isiaka Ajimobi, which he noted has created a conducive, peaceful and harmonious socio-political and economic environment in the state since the inception of the present administration.
He declared that he knew the governor alone couldn’t achieve such accomplishment without a full support of leadership and members of the
state house of assembly.
“What we have at hand presently in Oyo state in terms of governance as propelled by His Excellency , Senator Abiola Ajimobi and the present versatile house of assembly is gold and we should not settle
for nothing less than what we have at hand presently. Therefore I am aspiring to be the next governor of Oyo state to sustain the good work jointly done by the governor and this honorable house of assembly.
‘’If elected, I owe each and every member of this hallowed chamber medal of excellence in leadership for creating cordial working relation with executive arm of government in state and we can all see
the multiplier effect with various development projects going on
across the state.”
Present at the event were, the deputy speaker of the State House of
Assembly Honourable Abdul Wasiu Musa, the Majority leader of the House, Honorable Subair Kehinde Hassan. Also in attendance were the Chief Whip ,Honorable Olafioye Akinmoyede and Deputy Majority Leader , Honorable Oyedokun Oyeleke, amongst others.
