Executive Chairman of the Oyo State Universal Basic Education Board, Dr. Nureni Adeniran on Friday disclosed that 272,847 out of school children are going to be brought back to school in the state with the implementation of the World Bank supported “Better Education Service Delivery for All” (BESDA) scheme.
Dr. Nureni who made this known while giving his remark at the Opening ceremony of the 2 days interactive session with stakeholders on implementation of BESDA Scheme held at the Oyo state House of Chiefs on Thursday noted that as contained in a sample by the Nigerian Education Data Survey (NEDS) 2015, Oyo State has been observed to have the total of 272,847 Out of School Children marooning the street and constituting nuisance in the state.
The 5 years “Better Education Service Delivery for All” BESDA scheme is a short term initiative set to run between 2017 – 2022 and saddled with the responsibility of improving literacy level and increasing equitable access to Out of School children to go back to school.
The chairman added that of the 17 state, Oyo state is luckily the only Beneficiary state that enjoys the 5 years BESDA Scheme in the southwestern region of Nigeria.
“Oyo state is well prepared and you can see the huge turnout of our various stakeholders.
there is a technical work plan that will be used and we’ll create awareness on the importance of schooling in deriving adequate security and a crime free state.”
He further applauded the Executive Governor of Oyo state, Engr. Seyi Makinde for his doggedness and full fledged support to improving Education in the Pacesetter state.
National Coordinator of BESDA scheme, Prof. Gidado Tahir while giving his remarks noted that Oyo state has the best infrastructure and commitment in deriving the goal of the Better Education Service Delivery for All (BESDA).
He further enjoined all Parents, Market women, Teachers, traditional rulers, Community development Council and other major stakeholders of the scheme to continue in supporting the Governor of Oyo state in improving quality and free education in the state.
In the same development, Hon. Commissioner for Education, Prof. Daud Sangodoyin while giving his remark at the event qualified education as a compulsory right of every Nigerian irrespective of gender, social status, religious, ethnic background and peculiar individual challenges.
The commissioner who was ably represented by the Director of Planning, Research and Statistics of the commission, Mrs. Aminat Atere then appreciate the World Bank assisted program adding that the Oyo state government is committed in providing quality education to all its citizenry.
Director of Teachers Development wing of the Universal Basic Education Board, Mr. Umahi Ismaila while shedding more lights on the objectives of the scheme explained that it intends to ensure that all children goes to school to attain quality education.
“it is a result based program, which will not only improve literacy in focus states but also compensate students if the goal target is met at the long run.
Every girl child that pass will get $100 dollars, and boys will get $80 dollars, the schools and teachers will be rewarded, and the state will also be commended.” He added.
