The Osun State Government has debunked reports that it abandoned the 80-bed hospital donated to the state by Chief Femi Adesina, an aide to the late President Muhammadu Buhari.

Reacting to a publication by Osun Defender, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Public Health, Dr. Akindele Adekunle, said the hospital located in Ipetumodu was not abandoned, but rather undergoing necessary upgrades to correct several inadequacies observed after it was handed over to the government.
Dr. Adekunle explained that the hospital was delivered without key infrastructure, including a security post, laboratory, power connection, and proper flooring of the premises. He said these lapses exposed the facility to vandalism shortly after commissioning.
“The facility is located along an expressway, yet there was no provision for a security post to protect the hospital and its equipment. Vandals took advantage of this and carted away the generating set and other installations,” he said.
He noted that the government has since constructed a security post, repaired the vandalized generating set, and built a generator house. The roofing, which was blown off by wind due to poor construction, has also been redone by the state government.
“In addition, the compound has been floored to eliminate bushes and dangerous animals within the hospital premises,” Adekunle added.
He further disclosed that the administration has built and equipped a new laboratory for the hospital and is currently working on connecting the facility to the national grid through the installation of a transformer.
According to him, once the electrification process is completed, the government will deploy medical personnel to the hospital and commence full operation.
He assured residents of Ipetumodu and Osun State in general that the government remains committed to putting all healthcare facilities to effective use for the benefit of the people.
Adekunle also appealed to journalists to verify information before publication to avoid misleading reports capable of causing unnecessary public concern
