Members of Oodua Progressives Union OPU South American Chapter has frowned at continuous detention of the three members of the Odua Peoples Congress OPC who arrested the notorious kidnapper Wakili Iskilu in Ibarapa area of Oyo state at the correcional centre.
The Pan yoruba group in the diaspora founded by Iba Gani Adams, Aare Ona Kakanfo of Yorubaland with members in over 80 countries of the world .
At the just concluded conference of the South America Chapter of the association, The OPU South America Secretary General Comrade Babatunde Salam,popularly called Apunky, Expressed himself during the conference and insisted that those guys are not criminals, they should be released without any further delay ,that if the Federal government as raised to the insecurity challenges in the country the OPC wouldn’t have help them carry out on their failed duty.
The trio Awodele Adedigba, Dauda Kazeem and Hassan Ramon on the 7th of March 2021stormed the forest in Ibarapa to apprehend the deadly Iskilu Wakili but they were arrested and detained by the police.
After the intervention of Oyo state Governor Engineer Seyi Makinde, OPC National leader and Aare Ona Kakanfo of Yorubaland, Iba Gani Adams, they were released on bail only to be later rearrested and charged for conspiracy, murder and arson, and ordered them to be remanded in a correctional centre with their case file transferred to the office of the Oyo State Directorate of Public Prosecution, DPP.
Briefing National Insight on the resolution of the group, Ogunlowo Abiola Ezekiel (Coker) South America Cordinator of the organization said they frowned at the development and caution police from contious detention of conference of the Brazill chapter of the association.
He said OPU in the Latin America and entire world is ready to fight against the government of Nigeria if the arrested members are not released “ we will use all our mechanisms to get them freed if needs be “ he said.
He also maintained that the decison to punish the OPC members for the crime they did not committed will further discourage non state actors from assisting the security agencies in apprehending criminals and promote jungle justice.
Cuba Coordinator of OPU Latin America chapter, Comrade Ajayi Akeem, in his contributions said Infact that issue has been talk of the moment, imagine those committed crimes had been released and the innocent were being detained. The rate of injustice is at the high side in Nigeria “We will fight for the release of the 3 OPC members arrested illegally, we are tired of unlawful detentions, injustice, incessant killings and illegalities in the land of our forefathers ” he said , and urged the Government of Nigeria or whosoever is responsible to intervene and release the arrested members within the stipulated period of time.
The Bahamas Latin America Sub coordinator, comrade Fatai and other contributors during the press conference insisted that those guys are not criminals, they should be released without any further delay.
