The Ooni of Ife, Ooni Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi, CFR, Ojaja II, has expressed deep sorrow over the passing of renowned statesman Dr. Doyin Okupe, describing his death as a great loss to Ogun State, the Oduduwa race, and Nigeria at large.
Dr Doyin Okupe a media adviser to former president Olusegun Obasanjo and Goodluck Jonathan died on Friday 7th February at the age of 72.
In a statement signed by the Director of Media and Public Affairs at the Ooni’s Palace, Otunba Moses Olafare, the monarch extolled Dr. Okupe’s contributions to national development, democracy, and governance, acknowledging his intellect, patriotism, and dedication to public service.
“His sudden demise is indeed a rude shock and a profound loss. Dr. Okupe was a man of great intellect, unwavering patriotism, and remarkable contributions to national development. His voice resonated with courage, wisdom, and a firm commitment to the ideals of democracy and good governance,” the statement read.
The Ooni noted that Dr. Okupe played a significant role in shaping Nigeria’s political discourse and public service over the years, leaving behind a legacy of diligence, resilience, and progressive leadership.
“His departure creates a void in our national polity, yet his impact will continue to inspire generations. The House of Oduduwa stands in solidarity with his family, the government and people of Ogun State, the entire descendants of Oduduwa globally, and all Nigerians mourning this irreparable loss,” the statement added.
The Ooni prayed for the repose of Dr. Okupe’s soul and divine comfort for his loved ones in this time of grief.
