he Ooni of Ife, His Imperial Majesty, Ooni Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi, CFR, Ojaja II, has congratulated Prince Abimbola Owoade on his emergence as the Alaafin-elect of Oyo Kingdom.
In a statement issued by the Director of Media and Public Affairs, Otunba Moses Olafare, the monarch described the appointment as a significant milestone that ushers in a new era of unity, prosperity, and cultural preservation for the people of Oyo.
The Ooni, who serves as the Co-Chairman of the National Council of Traditional Rulers of Nigeria (NCTRN) and Permanent Chairman of the Southern Nigeria Traditional Rulers Council (SNTRC), commended the patience and resilience demonstrated by the royal family, the Oyomesi (kingmakers), and the people of Oyo, both at home and abroad, throughout the two-year selection process. He also lauded Governor Seyi Makinde for creating an enabling environment that facilitated a smooth transition.
“Oyo and Ile-Ife share an unbreakable bond rooted in divine origin and the preservation of Yoruba culture. The Alaafin’s throne remains a vital pillar in Yoruba traditional governance, and the appointment of Prince Abimbola Owoade is a continuation of that sacred legacy,” the statement read.
The Ooni expressed confidence in the ability of the Alaafin-elect to build on the enduring legacy of his predecessors, particularly the late Oba Lamidi Olayiwola Adeyemi III, who was renowned for his exceptional leadership. He urged the new monarch to be magnanimous in victory by fostering unity among all contestants and ensuring a peaceful relationship with the kingmakers.
“You are now a father to all. You must carry everyone along, whether they supported you or not, and ensure that Oyomesi remains united under your reign. By embracing peace, fairness, and inclusivity, you will serve as a beacon of hope, justice, and development for the people of Oyo,” the Ooni advised.
He further called on all indigenes of Oyo, from various walks of life, to support the new monarch in preserving the kingdom’s glory and fostering progress. The House of Oduduwa reiterated its commitment to promoting unity among Yoruba monarchs and ensuring the prosperity of the Yoruba people worldwide.
“Long live the Alaafin-elect! Long live the people of Oyo! Long live Yoruba land!” the statement concluded.
