… To Commence Work on Fourth Mainland Bridge Before the End of Year

The Special Adviser to the Lagos State Governor on Works and Infrastructure, Engr. Aramide Adeyoye has stated that, in one year, Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s government completed and commissioned 37 roads projects, in addition to repairs and sectional rehabilitation works done on more than 354 roads across the metropolis.

Engr. Adeyoye, who disclosed this during the Y2020 Ministerial Press briefing organised by the State Government to commemorate its first anniversary, noted that ongoing landmark projects, such as Agege-Pen Cinema, Agric-Ishawo Road and the Lagos-Badagry Expressway would soon be added to the list.

She said that infrastructural development remains a critical development vehicle for realising the present administration’s T.H.E.M.E.S. Agenda and the Greater Lagos vision of Africa’s model smart city, assuring that work on the Fourth Mainland Bridge and Lekki Regional Road will commence before the end of the current year.

While reiterating the administration’s commitment to the delivery of new road projects, massive repairs and rehabilitation of existing roads with construction of new bridges, the Governor’s aide clarified that the State government had over time adopted connectivity of roads and its effects on easing traffic on highways as part of criteria determining the choice of road construction in the State.

Speaking further, the Special Adviser said, in re-affirmation of the current administration’s commitment to promoting inter-modal transportation and tourism in Badagry, it has completed the construction of Iworo-Ajido and Epeme Roads phases 1 and 2, adding that the 6.65km two-lane single carriageway with a 300m bridge of 9m width, which was constructed by CCECC, is ready for commissioning soon.

Adeyoye further stated that the present government also flagged-off the infrastructural upgrade of Oniru network of roads, namely Muri-Okunola Extension, Ligali Ayorinde and Akin Olugbade, along with seven major junctions all in Iru-Victoria Island Local Council Development Area, in December 2019, under a Public Infrastructure Improvement Partnership (PIIP). She expressed optimism that the projects, on completion, will mitigate the traffic gridlock associated with the corridor and improve connectivity,

“Despite the present health cum economic challenges facing the world, Lagosians should expect commencement of more projects such as the 10 km long Lekki Regional Road which spans Victoria Garden City Scheme 1, connects VGC, Ikate Elegushi, Ikota, Chevron Drive, Ajiran, Pinnock Beach Estate, Gracefield Island and Orange Island, up to Freedom Road to Freedom Way at Lekki”, the Special Adviser assured.

She explained that the roads, upon completion would serve as an alternative to the Lekki-Epe Expressway, which is already congested and is currently the only road serving the Lekki sub-region which connects directly to the Osborne/Third Mainland bridge corridor.

The Special Adviser maintained that Transportation and Traffic Management are important aspects of the present administration’s T.H.E.M.E.S Agenda, as such the State Government had, since inception, focused its attention on easing the traffic situation and constructing strategic roads across Lagos.

She recalled that, “When this government came on board, many of the State’s roads were in bad shape. What the Governor did on assumption of duty was to conduct an assessment tour of some critical roads across the State, which made the administration to carry out immediate palliative work on over 160 failed portions of roads to alleviate the suffering of the people”.
