The Olugbon of Orile-Igbon, Oba Francis Alao, has called for stronger community vigilance and closer cooperation with security agencies following the deadly attacks on Yawota and Esiele communities in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State.
The monarch made the call while reacting to Wednesday’s invasion of Baptist Nursery and Primary School, Yawota, Community Grammar School, and L.A Primary School, Esiele, where armed hoodlums reportedly killed some residents and abducted several pupils and school staff, including Vice Principal Mrs. Alamu Folawe.
In a statement, Oba Alao described the incident as a disturbing threat to peace and safety in rural communities, warning that residents must remain alert and promptly report suspicious movements to security operatives.
He noted that the affected communities had long been known for peaceful coexistence, stable socio-cultural relations, and economic activities, expressing concern that such violence could instill fear among residents and disrupt normal life.
The traditional ruler sympathised with families who lost loved ones and those whose relatives were abducted, praying for divine comfort and the safe return of the victims.
Oba Alao also praised security agencies for their swift intervention but urged them to intensify efforts to track down the perpetrators and ensure they face justice.
He further assured residents that Seyi Makinde, alongside local government authorities and traditional rulers, remains committed to protecting lives and property across the state.
