In a landmark event symbolizing religious tolerance and unity, the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba (Dr.) Akinloye Owolabi Olakulehin (Ige Olakulehin I), hosted the first-ever Ramadan lecture at the Olubadan Palace, Oke Aremo, Ibadan, on Saturday.

The historic gathering was particularly significant as Oba Olakulehin, a Christian, became the first Olubadan to organize such an event, reinforcing Ibadan’s long-standing tradition of religious harmony. The lecture attracted a diverse crowd, including Muslim clerics, traditional rulers, government officials, and community leaders, who participated in special prayers and reflections on the holy month.

Addressing the gathering, the Olubadan expressed his appreciation for the overwhelming turnout and reaffirmed his commitment to fostering peaceful coexistence among different religious groups in Ibadanland.

“I see myself as the father of all, regardless of tribe, religious beliefs, language, or location. This event is not only spiritually uplifting but also a testament to the religious tolerance that defines Ibadanland,” the monarch stated.

The Otun Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba (Senator) Rashidi Adewolu Ladoja, also emphasized Ibadan’s secular nature, noting that the city has always accommodated diverse religious practices without discrimination or conflict.

The guest lecturer, Khalifa Qoseem Ajisafe Akilapa, spoke on the theme “Destiny,” stressing that leadership and authority are divinely ordained. He urged those in positions of power to embrace humility, forgiveness, and accountability while encouraging citizens to remain loyal to constituted authority.

Dignitaries at the event included the Chief Imam of Ibadanland, Sheikh Abdul-Ganiyy Abubakr Agbotomokekere; the Aare Musulumi of Yorubaland, Edo, and Delta states, Alhaji Dawud Akinola Mokanjuola; the President General of the Central Council of Ibadan Indigenes (CCII), Barr. Sulaimon Ajeniyi Ajewole; and several Mogajis, Baales, and Islamic scholars.

The Olubadan’s initiative further cements Ibadan’s reputation as a city where religious diversity thrives in harmony, setting an example of peaceful coexistence for others to emulate.
