The Okere of Sakiland, Oba Dr. Surv. Khalid Oyeniyi Olabisi Oyedepo III, has lamented the growing wave of insecurity in the South-West and other parts of the country, condemning the recent terrorist attack on Yashikira community in Kaiama Local Government Area of Kwara State.

The revered monarch described the attack as barbaric, unfortunate and a serious threat to the peace and unity of Nigeria.

According to reports, armed insurgents invaded Yashikira community in the early hours of Monday, attacking the Police Divisional Headquarters and the palace of the Emir of Yashikira, while abducting no fewer than 10 residents.

Reacting to the incident, Oba Oyedepo expressed concern over the increasing attacks on innocent citizens and traditional institutions, noting that insecurity has continued to spread across several communities.

“The continuous attacks on innocent communities and revered traditional institutions are unacceptable and condemnable. It is painful that criminals could invade a peaceful community, overpower security operatives and attack the palace of a first-class traditional ruler,” the monarch stated.

Kabiyesi Okere also referenced reports from a surviving police officer, who disclosed that the attackers were heavily armed with sophisticated weapons and possessed superior firepower that overwhelmed security personnel during the confrontation.

He commended security operatives for their bravery despite the difficult circumstances and called on the Federal Government and security agencies to intensify efforts toward combating insurgency, banditry and kidnapping across the country.

The monarch further urged security authorities to strengthen intelligence gathering, improve operational logistics and provide adequate support for personnel deployed to volatile areas.

Oba Oyedepo sympathized with the Emir of Yashikira, residents of the community and families of the abducted victims, praying for their safe return.

He also appealed to Nigerians to remain vigilant and support security agencies with credible information capable of assisting efforts to curb criminal activities across the country.
