Oke Ogun Traditional Rulers, Leaders Storm National Assembly for Public Hearing On Establishment of University in Oke Ogun

Traditional rulers and eminent personalities from Oke Ogun area of Oyo state on monday stormed the National Assembly to justified the need for the establishment of Federal University in the region.

The development is a follow up to the Bill moved by Senator Abdulfatai Buhari, lawmwker representing Oyo North Senatorial districts on the need for the university.

The bill which was first moved at the 8th Assembly was again presented by Senator Buhari in 2019 and passed the second reading before it was transferred to the committee on Education.

Dr. Segun Ajuwon president Oke Ogun Development forum in his presentation said that the zone has not only been abandoned but neglected totally and so existence of such a university will no doubt help to better the livings of people in the area.
Dr. Ajuwon hinted that the people of Oke Ogun comprising the traditional fathers, religious leaders, professionals and generality of the people of 10local government areas have decided to speak with one voice that the institution’s establishment bill should be passed into law by the 9th senate as soon as possible

He pointed out that the towns and villages in Oke Ogun are ready to donate reasonable hectares of land without necessarily expecting any compensation for the land owners.

He admonished the National Assembly and the Federal Executive Council to see to the establishment of the university in Oke Ogun so that employment opportunities, improved agricultural productivity and social-economic development can be brought closer to people of the zone.

In his presentation, Alhaji Ahmed Raji, SAN quarried the existence of 10 local governments without a higher institution while he added that the entire people of Oke Ogun are ready to give the Federal government the necessary supports.

He declared that the location of the institution could be any of the towns and local governments while Alhaji Raji added that the zone is the most appropriate zone for the institution.

He appealed to the Federal government to help the people of Oke Ogun by ensuring that the institution comes to reality.

Alhaji Raji charged the National Assembly to complement efforts of Senator Buhari whom he described as a pride of Oyo North whom the whole people of the district pleased with.

He commended the lawmaker to have gone this far and prayed that he shall succeed on the task.

Senator Buhari in his opening remark said the bill to established university of Agriculture and Technology in Oke Ogun has been a dream since the campaign in 2006.

He however optimistic that wih the public heading that holds today, it is certain that the dream of facilitating Federal University for the region will come to fruition.
