Hon Akinwole Akinwale, Chairman Ogbomoso United Football Club has been named the Best Football Promoter of the year by the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria SWAN.
He was presented with an award at the grand finale of SWAN week held at Joybam Hotel in Ibadan
SWAN chairman, Mr. Niyi Alebiosu in his remark said the award is in recognition of his passion for the development of sports in the state
He added that as a private and sole proprietor of Ogbomoso United, Wolekanle has taken the club to an enviable state and urge him not to relent in his efforts
in his response, Akinwole appreciated SWAN for recognizing his efforts on Ogbomoso United Football Club and promise to do more
” This award for me is something that will further encourage me to do more sports and youth development in Oyo state and Nigeria at large
” One of the challenges we have in Nigeria is lack of commitment from private individual and over-dependent on government for developing sport, though the government have a lot of roles to play but an individual should not shy away from their responsibilities in developing the sport in Nigeria
” I played soccer while growing up and I know it is an interesting game, not only that it generates employments and reduces crime rates so Ogbomoso United FC became a child of necessity for me as a way of reducing crime among the youths and promoting talents among the youths
Other Awardees included Rotimi Alli, Chairman Ibadan Football Association, Professor Shabit Adegoke founder Shafaufeen international, and others.
