Ogbomoso Lifters Host Maiden Ogbomoso Spelling Bee

The Ogbomoso Lifters, an emerging youth representative platform and social enterprise geared towards the development of youths held the maiden edition of its annual spelling bee competition for kids in primary schools on 24th of July, 2017

 

The spelling bee which is aimed at educating and encouraging pupils to perfect the art of spelling, help build their confidence level, and aid their grammatical expression and vocabulary was held at the prestigious Crystal Spring Hall. The competition had eleven primary schools across Ogbomoso North Local Government in attendance. Schools that participated in the contest include Aduke N/P School, Comforter N/P School, Alex-tee Schools Montessori and Redeemers Children Academy.  Others are Sabo Baptist Church N/P School, Lautech Staff School, Christ the Solid Rock N/P School, Youth & Young International Creative Academy, Zion N/P School, Adebolu group of Schools and Zoe N/P School.

Twenty-two participants contested against one another in a thrilling and keenly contested race which saw Ten year old Salawu Mohammed from Lautech Staff School emerge as the winner of the competition with 70 points. Twelve year old Sanda-Omi Adeola from Adebolu group of Schools trailed behind with 65 points to emerge second while OladoyeOladayo from Zion N/P School who pulled 55 points came third.

 

The winner of the competition went home with a plaque, various text books courtesy of Talking drum Apartments and Hotel and motivational books courtesy of Alata Milk and Honey.

The first and second runner up also went home with plaques, text books and other consolation prizes.

 

Seven year old JimohAminat from Youth & Young International Creative Academy who made it to the last round was also given a gift by Mr Benjamin Oyedejifor her prowess

 

The event which was adjured to be a success by the organisers and participants was sponsored by Hon. Bimbo Olawumi Oladeji Member Oyo State House of Assembly representing Ogbomoso North Constituency and Engr. AdeyiIdowu

 

The National Administrator of the Ogbomoso Lifters, Mr ‘SeunOgunbiyi who appreciated all their sponsors and supporters, expressed satisfaction on the maiden edition and promised that subsequent editions will be bigger and better as they hope to capture the four other local governments in Ogbomoso land and also host the senior category for secondary schools
