Mama Odun Nlo Sopin

She was born in Oyo Town
Evangelist Deborah Adebola Fasoyin was born on March 1, 1940, in Oyo Town, Oyo State, into the family of Mr. and Mrs. Afolabi.

She grew up in a humble but disciplined home
Her father, Joseph Afolabi, was a farmer and also worked as a cook for Europeans at Saint Andrew’s Teacher Training School, while her mother, Mary Olaegbe Afolabi, was a hardworking trader from Ogbomosho.

She is the only daughter in her family
Mrs. Fasoyin is the only daughter and the last of six children, growing up in a family that valued hard work, discipline, and faith.

Her education took her across several Nigerian cities

She had her early education in Oyo, Jos, Ogbomosho, Lagos, and Lalupon near Ibadan, before attending Orita-Metta Baptist Girls Modern School in Ibadan in 1956.
She gave her life to Christ at a young age

Evangelist Fasoyin accepted Christ early in life and joined the choir of Saint Michael’s Anglican Church, Oyo, in 1949, where her love for gospel music began.

Her marriage strengthened her spiritual journey
In 1961, she married Elder Olusola Fasoyin of the Christ Apostolic Church (CAC), a union that deepened her Christian faith and ministry.
She built a successful career before full-time ministry

She worked with Kingsway Stores (UAC) from 1958 to 1987, rising to the position of manager before resigning.
She became famous through gospel music ministry

Her participation in a gospel recording project at Pastor Kayode Abiara’s C.A.C. Oke Imole, Ibadan, brought her ministry into the public spotlight.
She is globally recognized for her evergreen gospel song

She received several awards, including the Crystal Award, Wise Women Awards (UK) Naomi Category (2013), and PMAN Award for the Most Evergreen Song, “Odun Nlo Sopin.”

She still inspires generations at 86
Despite her age, she remains active in ministry, leading the Good Women Choir and mentoring many gospel musicians. Interestingly, she prefers to be called “Sisi” (Young Lady) because of her joyful and energetic spirit.
