Ogbomoso Chief Imam Fixes July 16 Thanksgiving Prayer for Rescued Oriire Pupils, Teachers

The Grand Chief Imam of Ogbomosoland, Imam Yunus Olushina Teliat Ayilara II, has announced a special thanksgiving prayer session to celebrate the safe return of the pupils and teachers abducted from communities in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State.

The prayer session is scheduled to hold on Thursday, July 16, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at the Ogbomoso Central Mosque, with community leaders, parents, well-wishers and members of the public invited to participate.

In a statement issued on Saturday, the Chief Imam described the rescue of the victims from Yawota, Ahoro and Esin-ele communities as a moment of immense joy and gratitude to Almighty Allah.

He said the successful rescue was an answer to the prayers of the people and a reflection of the resilience of the affected families as well as the collective efforts of all those involved.

Ayilara expressed appreciation to the Federal Government and the Oyo State Government for their commitment and collaboration in securing the release of the victims.

He also commended the Nigerian security forces for their courage, professionalism and sacrifices in carrying out the rescue operation, praying that God would continue to strengthen and protect them.

The Islamic leader extended his sympathy to the victims and their families for the trauma they endured during the period of captivity, praying for their complete healing and restoration.

According to him, the thanksgiving prayer session will also serve as an opportunity to seek God’s continued protection over Ogbomosoland and Nigeria, while praying for lasting peace, unity and security across the country.
