Ogbomoso Ajilete, a sociocultural organization of Ogbomoso Indigenes in Ogbomoso has expressed concern over the slow phase of development on ogbomoso-oyo road and the funding crisis rocking Ladoke Akintola university of technology, ogbomoso
This was part of the discussion at the 2018 edition of gbegiri day held in Ibadan on Sunday.
The chairman of the association, Dr. Tayo Alayande in his opening remark said the concern over the road and the University is because of its negative effect on the economic development and status of the city.
“ The road has killed many people, dreams and vision that would have uplift not only ogbomoso but oyo state and Nigeria at large and we are appealing to the federal government to please speed up action on the road for easier movement and economic growth.
Speaking on LAUTECH ,issue, Dr Alayande many indigenous association and other stakeholders are worried about the development and promise that Ajilete group will not relent in their call for proper funding of the institution by the owners state .
He however call for improve enrolment at the state own technical school in Ogbomoso “ the Technical School in Ogbomoso is having poor enrolment, they have facilities and lectures ,let us encourage our youths to enroll their wards at the school”
Also in his remark, the President Ogbomoso Community Foundation, General Oladayo Popoola ( rtd) “ We are not relenting in our efforts, we have met ex president, Chief Obasanjo and he has written a letter to the two state governor about it, we are hoping for a better result soon, because what they complains of is poor funding.
The guest lecturer, Hon Joshua Olagunju Ojo, Speaker Oyo state House of Assembly, in his keynote address harps on the need to appreciate our value system as well as engage more in trading and Agriculture which is the predominant business of Ogbomoso people.
” While the ingenuity of Ogbomoso Sons and Daughter in commerce is well acclaimed world wide, it has to be stated that developing and orientating ourselves particularly the youths in needed modern skills and involvements in viable areas of commerce are crucial to help benefits from our past glory in commerce, for example, everywhere people talk about entrepreneur skills for development event in higher institutions, so for us we need to sharpen the entrepreneur skills of our youths in such a way that they will maximize their potentials within our community”.
Ojo who was represented by His personal Assistant , Mr Adeniyi Adeyeye however harps on the need to support credible politicians that will represents the interest of the community and facilitates development in the coming dispensations
