Comrade Oladimeji Odeyemi has commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for approving an upward review of salaries and welfare packages for personnel of the Armed Forces of Nigeria, describing the decision as a historic intervention that will boost troop morale and strengthen national security.
Odeyemi, in a statement issued on Thursday, said the salary increase demonstrated President Tinubu’s commitment to improving the welfare of officers and soldiers who make enormous sacrifices in defending Nigeria’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.
He noted that investing in the welfare of security personnel was crucial to building a stronger security architecture, adding that the improved remuneration would enhance operational effectiveness, professionalism, and the fighting spirit of troops engaged in counter-terrorism, anti-banditry, and other security operations across the country.
While applauding the President for the initiative, Odeyemi also commended the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, for what he described as purposeful leadership and commitment to the welfare and professional development of Nigerian Army personnel.
According to him, Lt. General Shaibu’s reforms aimed at modernising the Army, improving training standards, strengthening operational capabilities, and embracing technology-driven military operations were contributing to the effectiveness of the force.
Odeyemi said the synergy between President Tinubu’s welfare-focused policies and the COAS’s institutional reforms would further enhance the capacity of the Nigerian Army to tackle terrorism and other security threats.
He urged the Federal Government to sustain investments in military infrastructure, modern equipment, intelligence gathering, healthcare, housing, education, and other welfare initiatives for personnel and their families.
“As a critical stakeholder in Nigeria’s fight against terrorism, I reaffirm my unwavering support for the Armed Forces of Nigeria and all security agencies working tirelessly to secure our nation,” he said.
Odeyemi expressed confidence that with sustained government support, visionary military leadership, and the commitment of Nigerian troops, the country would continue to make progress towards lasting peace and improved national security.
