Nurses and midwives at the Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH) Teaching Hospital, Ogbomoso, have issued a 15-day ultimatum to the hospital management over what they described as persistent neglect of their welfare and conditions of service.

The ultimatum was contained in a statement signed by the unit chairman, Ojewumi Olutayo, and the unit secretary, Adedokun Foluwake.

In a notice dated September 4, 2025, the workers lamented being consistently sidelined whenever new welfare packages and benefits are approved for health workers across Oyo State. They noted that while their colleagues in other state-owned facilities have benefitted from the new national minimum wage, LAUTECH Teaching Hospital staff remain excluded.

The Association recalled that they were also denied timely access to the COVID-19 allowance, received delayed hazard allowance, and have now been completely left out of the minimum wage implementation, a situation they say has worsened economic hardship and lowered staff morale.

Among their demands are:

Immediate implementation of the new national minimum wage with effect from January 2025.

Payment of promotion arrears from 2018 to 2024, which they say has lost value due to inflation.

Recruitment of additional nurses to address staff shortages that threaten quality healthcare delivery.

Renovation and proper furnishing of nurses’ stations and rooms to improve working conditions.

The workers stressed that the recurring pattern of exclusion can only be addressed if the Oyo State Government takes over direct payment of salaries at the teaching hospital, thereby ensuring uniform implementation of welfare packages across state-owned institutions.

Appealing directly to Governor Seyi Makinde, the nurses and midwives described him as a leader associated with fairness and justice, urging his intervention to prevent industrial unrest.

“Failure to act within the 15-day ultimatum will leave us with no choice but to embark on strike action—an outcome that will disrupt hospital services and patient care, which no one desires,” the notice read.
