“Nurses are Highly Rated Health Care Professionals,” says UI VC

The Vice-Chancellor of the University of Ibadan, Professor Kayode O. Adebowale, mni, FAS, has commended nurses for being highly rated health care professionals.

He gave the commendation while receiving delegates to the 2nd Annual Scientific Conference and Award ceremony of the SIGMA Theta Tau International, holding at the University of Ibadan during a courtesy visit to his office.

He said nursing professionals stand out as health care practitioners who are recognised and given priority in all climes of the world because of their professional conduct in the discharge of their duties.

The Vice-Chancellor commended the foundation Dean of the Faculty of Nursing University of Ibadan, Prof. Prisca O. Adejumo for her love, faith, passion, and commitment to the establishment, sustainability, and advancement of the Faculty of Nursing in the University of Ibadan.

He encouraged the Dean to build a strong structure and adopt a leadership style that others will build upon in the future.

Prof. Adebowale charged the new Faculty of Nursing to embark on programmes and render services that would generate funds for the University.

The leader of the delegates and President of SIGMA Theta Tau International, Alpha Alpha Upsilon chapter, Prof. Prisca O. Adejumo said the team came purposefully to inform the Vice-Chancellor about the Scientific Conference, inaugurate the chapter, and induct members into the organisation.

She appreciated the management for what the chapter had benefited from the institution.

She also commended the University management for effective leadership and support given towards the establishment of the Faculty of Nursing, UI.

Prof. Adejumo said the SIGMA Theta Tau International is the largest, most reputable, and credible nursing organisation in the world with membership in 550 chapters in over 100 countries.

She explained that the organisation has an icon and a chord that gives members entrance to anywhere in the world.

She stated that 44 new members who have been successfully screened according to international standards will be inducted into the organisation at the conference.

The SIGMA Theta Tau International, Alpha Alpha Upsilon chapter draws its membership from the University of Ibadan and other universities in Nigeria.
