The Women’s Wing of the Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE), Oyo State Chapter, has announced plans to celebrate the 2026 International Women’s Day with a series of activities aimed at promoting the recognition and empowerment of women within the Local Government Service.
The State Women Chairperson of the union, Comrade Atilola Kafayat, disclosed this in a statement while felicitating with women in the NULGE family as the world marks the annual global celebration dedicated to women’s achievements and contributions.
Atilola commended the resilience, dedication and invaluable roles played by women working in the Local Government Service, noting that their commitment has continued to strengthen the union and improve service delivery across the state.
She revealed that the state leadership of the union, under the State President, Comrade Ayobami Olusegun Adeogun, FCPA, is making adequate preparations to ensure that the 2026 International Women’s Day celebration is held in a grand and memorable manner.
According to her, the programme will provide a platform for women within the service to showcase their intellectual abilities, creativity, confidence and overall personality, while also encouraging greater participation of women in union activities.
A major highlight of the celebration will be a special contest tagged “Omidan NULGE 2026,” where participants will take part in a parade and oral assessment before a panel of assessors to demonstrate their knowledge, eloquence and personal attributes.
At the end of the contest, the most outstanding participant will be crowned “Omidan NULGE 2026,” recognised as the most beautiful and intellectually distinguished woman in the Local Government Service, and will receive a crown and other prizes.
Atilola therefore urged women across all Local Government Councils and Local Council Development Areas in Oyo State to prepare to actively participate in the programme, adding that the official date and detailed schedule of activities will be announced soon.
