The resolution was part of a communiqué issued at the end of the union’s monthly Congress held on Saturday at the NUJ Press Centre, Iyaganku, Ibadan, under the chairmanship of the State Chairman, Mr. Akeem Abas.

The Congress commended the Federal Government, Oyo State Government, security agencies and Nigerians for their roles, prayers and support that culminated in the successful rescue of the abducted pupils and teachers from Oriire LGA.

While expressing relief over the victims’ release, the union urged the government to evolve proactive measures to secure all schools and further strengthen the state’s security architecture by equipping security agencies to respond effectively to emerging threats.

The Congress also appealed to members of the public to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious movements or activities within their communities to security agencies.

The journalists condemned the politicisation of security issues through what they described as irresponsible comments by some political actors, warning that such statements could heighten tensions in the polity. They also urged journalists to uphold professionalism and responsibility in reporting security-related matters.

On public safety, the Congress expressed concern over the use of mobile phones by some petrol attendants while dispensing fuel, describing the practice as dangerous and calling on relevant authorities to enforce safety regulations.

The union further urged the Oyo State Government to conduct a thorough investigation into the recent violent clash in Ojoo, Akinyele Local Government Area, and ensure that those responsible are prosecuted.

Congress also drew the government’s attention to the deteriorating condition of the Eleyele–Ologuneru Bridge, describing it as a death trap requiring urgent intervention.

It equally called for immediate action to improve drainage systems and protect river banks across the state to mitigate the risk of flooding during the rainy season.

As part of its resolutions, the Congress inaugurated a five-member committee to interface with the management of the Broadcasting Corporation of Oyo State (BCOS) over the ongoing industrial dispute in the corporation.

The communiqué was signed by the Secretary of the NUJ Oyo State Council, Mr. Temidayo Adu, on behalf of the Communiqué Committee chaired by Temitope Ojoawo.
