NGO Calls for Political, Education, Cultural Restructuring in Nigeria

The Civic, Educational And Cultural Initiative(CIVECU), an Oyo State based Non- Governmental Organisation (NGO) has called for Political,Educational and Educational Restructuring in Nigeria.

Alhaji Bolaji Adeleke, Chairman of CIVECU made call at the Cultural Centre Ibadan during the a Press Briefing held to usher in a one Day Workshop aimed at reshaping the country’s fortune for the better.

“Today’s Workshop is to sensitise the citizenry on the need to reshaping Nigeria’s political, Education and cultural institutions for better enhancement.

“I hereby call for political, education and cultural restructuring for the nation to move forward,” he said.

The Theme of the workshop is “Promoting Nigerian Civic, Cultural, Educational Values, Sensitisation OnT he Need To Be Proactive in Civic Duties.”

According to Adeleke, who said the body was concerned on how to achieve Nigeria of our dream, reiterated to need to ensure good governance, educational prospect and cultural enhancement.

“Just as we are asking for good governance where government will be accountable to the people,our education and culture must also be giving impetus.

“For example, while Nigerian youths must see sound education as the fountain of social and economic development, they must also embrace home grown culture.   Instead of promoting foreign culture we must promote our own heritage,” he said.

Dr Niyi Olayinka, a lecturer from Political Science Department of The Polytechnic Ibadan, called for a reform of nation’s politics, whereby monetization of democracy will be discouraged, removal of immunity clause, as well as reducing the cost of governance.

“For instance, the present system whereby political office holders will be on full time collecting heavy payment, they should be on part-time service earning only allowances, “he said.

 

Barr. Bayo Lawal, Chairman of the occasion, who said there is the need for Nigeria to correct the ills of her political, education and cultural institutions, reiterated that the nation must be transformed to be a productive economy.

 

Among the participants at workshop are the representatives of National Orientation Agency (NOA), Oyo State Ministry of Education, Nigeria Union of Teachers and SUBEB.

Others include students from Bayanatudeen Model College Yidi Arola, Apete, Ibadan and Ebony Group of Schools, Ologuneru, Ibadan.

 

Highlight of the events at the workshop include cultural displays by both Oyo State Cultural Troup and the organisers’ Cultural Group.
