The Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) has announced the official opening of its student loan application portal for the 2025/2026 academic session. The portal will be accessible to applicants from Thursday, October 23, 2025, to Saturday, January 31, 2026.

In a statement released by the Director of Strategic Communications, Mrs. Oseyemi Oluwatuyi, NELFUND said the initiative is part of efforts to ensure that no Nigerian student is denied access to higher education due to financial constraints.

The agency called on tertiary institutions across the country to cooperate by uploading verified records of both returning and newly admitted students on the NELFUND Student Verification Portal, describing the process as vital for students’ eligibility and successful application.

According to the release, returning and newly admitted students of accredited tertiary institutions are eligible to apply. Fresh students may also apply using either their Admission Number or JAMB Registration Number in place of a matric number.

NELFUND urged institutions to exercise flexibility in enforcing registration and fee payment deadlines for students awaiting loan disbursement. It also advised schools that are yet to commence their 2025/2026 academic session to formally notify NELFUND of their approved academic calendars for proper scheduling.

Furthermore, the Fund appealed to institutions to adopt temporary registration measures for students whose loan applications are still being processed to prevent disruption of their studies.
