The Non-Academic Staff Union of Universities (NASU), University of Ibadan (UI) Chapter, on Wednesday in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital, conferred an Award of Excellence on the Alaafin of Oyo, Oba ( Dr.) Lamidi Olayiwola Adeyemi 111.
Other recipients included the National Leader of the All Progressives Congress ( APC) Asiwaju Bola Tinubu’, a prominent politician, Engineer Olasunkanmi Tegbe,band the Juju Maestro, Otunba Sunday Adegeye, aka King Sunny Ade.
The Chairman of NASU chapter, Malachy Etim, in his opening address said the occasion was part of activities lined up to celebrate the Union’s Week, which was the first of its kind by the University of Ibadan chapter of NASU.
He stated that the choice of recipients for the awards of excellence was based on merit and impeccable track records of the awardees.
He described the Alaafin as a ” passionate, resilient, intelligent and humanist par excellence, whose contributions to human capital development are worthy of emulation”.
Etim also announced the appointment of the Alaafin as the Union chapter’s Grand patron.
Oba Adeyemi, in his short acceptance address, described unionism as a ” lubrication for the growth and development of any establishment”.
The monarch recalled that while he was the Chancellor at the then University of Sokoto, now the Uthman Dan Fodio University, he knew much about union activities through the Vice Chancellor.
” The Unions engender effective and open administration, as well as foster mutual interaction between the management and staffers, both the academic and non academic”.
While lauding the University of Ibadan chapter of SANU, the Paramount who called for mutual inteaction between the management and all the unions for a smooth and unhindered academic calendar, also pledged not to disappoint NASU in his new appointment.
