The National Association of Nigeria Travel Agencies NANTA Western Zone organised a day retreat program for its newly elected Exco’s on the 17th March 2022.
The program which was initiated by the Zonal Vice President, Otunba Babatunde Adesokan was organised to equip the Executives with modern leadership and Governance tools to run the affairs of the association in the next two years.
Adesokan in his opening remark said said the retreat is a new way to task the leader’s on how and methods to achieve success towards the benefits of the members of the association in the zone.
Th BOT Chief Mrs Kemi Kofoworola Akanni Aluko commended the initiator Otunba Babatunde Adesokan for bringing up this idea of training the leader’s towards embarking their responsibility to the association, she emphasized on the need for the new Exco’s to deliver on their mandate to the benefits of the members.
She however charged the leadership to work in consonance with their vision to achieve what they promised.
Mr. Kayode Ademoye a former Vice president of the zone in his paper entitled “Sustaining Nanta’s Heritage – your role as a new Exco” narrated how Nanta as an association started with the sole objective of protecting the interest of the members in 1973 by few gentlemen and a Lady Mrs Theresa Ezeobi-Ojo then called Nata but later methaphorzised into what is today’s Nanta.
He harped on why it’s important to build on the integrity of the founding father’s by doing business with ethics and proffesionalism.
He said technology has made things easier for the members this day, which is a good thing but also warned that we need to do things in the right way to be able to sustain the membership legacy. He finally commended the new vp for bringing this idea and ask the association to adopt it as a mandate.
Also Dr Sina Adegunle, a former 3 times president of Ibadan Polo Club who delivered a paper on ” Attributes of a Successful leader’ reminded the Exco’s that election has come and gone therefore “what next?” should be the question in everyone’s mind.
He maintained that each Exco’s term start from their day of swearing in therefore the members has started watching the activities as campaigned.
Trust, accountability and commitment are good qualities any successful leader must possessed, he said members should be able to trust you as their leader at all times because it’s the trust they saw in you to vote for you.
He further said that all leader’s must be accountable to their followers therefore as a leader ” you must always account for your stewardship no matter how small to your members, this according to him is a sign of integrity.
He finally asked the newly leaders to be committed their goals because any leader who failed to commit his time and resources to his vision and goals will never realize it.
On his part Pastor Muyiwa Matilukuro of Victory Travels emphasized on the importance and benefits of “synagising with trade partner’s to the development of Nanta as an association.’
He mentioned that our trade partners are there for us to tap on and charge the Exco’s on how to go about it. He said “Airlines will never come to look for you but you must look for them” he highlighted on benefits members could get from the synergies if the Exco’s could facilitate such program. He said synergies should not be limited top 11 airlines alone as we can extend it to GDS , Hotels and Destination which could bring in Fam trips.
The National Treasurer Dr Olatokunbo Dagunduro who gave the vote of thanks also advised the new Exco’s to learn from the past and work in harmony to actualise all the campaign Manifestos so that Nanta western zone could belong to it proper position among the association, he further charge the VP in particular to make sure he always carry his Exco’s along in decision making while asking other Exco’s members to see any complain or correction from the VP as a charge to perform rather than condemnation.
He finally appreciated the BOT, the resource person’s and all the attendees while having the believe that every one must have been equiped and ready to deliver on his or her responsibilities
