The newly appointed chairman of the Oyo State Swimming Association Arch. Muyiwa Ige has reiterated its commitment to take the sport to greater heights.
The former Osun State commissioner for Urban and Regional Planning and son of the late old Oyo State Governor, Chief Bola Ige made this call while speaking with newsmen after their inauguration saying swimming has greatly suffered a setback especially in the Southwest geo-political zone of the country, declaring his readiness to give the sport a new lease of life.
“I’m quite happy that the Oyo State ministry of Youths and Sports is reviving the sports association, is a right step in the right direction, but own injection would be a special focus on the safety of the beginners that we are trying to recruits into the sport. We would ensure that each child can swim with a life saving skills under certified lifeguards and coaches”
“We would be going to hinterland to discover the likes of Valerie
Oloyede of the 70s and all our swimmers would be well documented to follow their progress. We would ensure certification of blue water facilities as I used to call it, by collaborating with private partners for swimming development”.
Speaking in the same vein, the principal partner of the Federal
Ministry of Sports zone one, on grassroots development, Kayrom Lee Fitness and Gym who has the 25 meters swimming pool of Obafemi Awolowo Stadium under its supervision has pledged to do everything within its capacity to support the newly inaugurated swimming association.
A release issued and signed by the CEO of Kayrom Lee, Mrs. Romoke Ayinde stated that every swimming facilities available at the disposal of the firm would be made available for the use of the association at every giving time while Kayrom Lee would also collaborate with the swimming board in its ‘catch them young’ drive.
“We used to organized a periodical swimming training sessions for pupils of some private schools, all these and many of our other programmes would be infuse into the calendar of event of Oyo State Swimming Association for better output and clinical outlook”, Kayrom Lee boss noted.
