Minister Applauds Tobi Amusan’s Victory At CAS

The minister of sports development, Senator John Owan Enoh, the has expressed optimism after the Court of Arbitration for Sports (CAS) rejected the appeals filed by the World Athletics and WADA and upheld the decision taken by the World Athletics Disciplinary Tribunal, which finds that Tobi Amusan did not commit any anti-doping rule violation.

This development leaves Nigeria’s 100m hurdles world record holder Tobi Amusan eligible to compete at Paris Olympics 2024.

Enoh who has been in the forefront of ending the perennial issues of doping that have characterized Nigeria’s relationship with the World Anti-doping Agency (WADA) said: “This award by CAS gives the sports -loving people of Nigeria immense joy to hear that Tobi is clear to compete at the Olympics.

“It is encouraging that this submission also comes  at a time when the  leadership of the country is registering a landmark achievement  to domesticate the Anti-Doping Law with the backing of parliament, thereafter establishing the National Anti-Doping Organization.”

In a statement issued by CAS, its panel unanimously acknowledged that the Athlete committed two filing failures but did not confirm the existence of a missed test alleged by World Athletics and the World Anti-doping Organization , which would have been the third Whereabouts Failure committed within a 12 month period.
