Migratory Bird Owned By University of Finland Caught in Kishi

A Migratory bird, Western Osprey (Pandion Haliaetus), simply identified as Sea or Fish Hawk from Finland was recently caught in Kishi area of oyo state

The hawk which was owned by the University of Helsinki, Finland travelled from about 8773km to Nigeria
A ring bearing the information was spotted on one of its legs.

The Dam keeper,Ibrahim Galadima said the fish have been coming around to eat fishes from dam for some times now before it was caught.

We were suprised to see the ring and people are afraid  we kept it for four days and effort to feed the birds  not yield as it refuses to eat and in oder to  not to waste it we ecided to protect it and bring it to  the  University of Ibadan Zoological garden.

In 2018 a sea hawk with same inscription was also caught at Malam Madori, Jigawa state .

According to the persons who caught it, the bird also known as sea hawk   was later released and allowed to fly at the Baturiya Wetland Reserve in Jigawa.
