Media Job is a Thankless One – Federal lawmaker

he Federal Lawmaker representing Ibadan North East /South East Federal Constituency of Oyo State,  Hon. Dapo Lam Adesina has described the job of the penpushers as a job that doesn’t attract commendations from the public despite its hazardous nature.

The Federal lawmaker made this  assertion while playing host to the executive members of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, Oyo State Council, led by its chairman Comrade Adewumi Faniran, who went on a courtesy visit to him at his Felele home, in Ibadan, Oyo  State .

“For the society to get it right, then the media must definitely get its bearing right. Just as the security operatives deserve a fantastic remuneration in order to boost their morale,  the journalists too being the watchdog of the society should enjoy a good pay package, so as to enable them do their work without any fear or favour. The job is very crucial to the success of our democracy,  just as it operates in the developed world. ” Honourable Lam Adesina submitted.

The lawmakers further observed that if there was no encouragement from either the government or the people, the tendency would be there for the media workers to be discouraged from doing their job as they ought to.

“I want to really charge your executive on the imperative of leaving an enduring legacy. This is far more important than engaging in selfish moves at the detriment of the Union as a whole. Besides, you need to redeem the battered image of the Union, as well as embark  on re -orientation of your members on the need to imbibe the culture of contentment and discipline ” Hon. Dapo Lam Adesina admonished the Adewumi Faniran – led executive members.

Earlier in his
opening remarks,  the Union Chairman Comrade Adewumi Faniran had appreciated the seasoned politician for finding time out of his busy schedule to host the Team.

“I really thank God for granting me this rare opportunity to meet the Lam Adesina family. I used to meet with Baba Lam Adesina when he was alive,  and he was a down to earth person, disciplined, selfless in service and a patriot. Having you as his successor makes one happy. Let me then enjoin you on the need to keep up the good work and the good name built by the family. ” Comrade Faniran said.

While reminding the lawmaker of his pact with the masses,  the Union Chairman posited that politicians needed to be put on their toes by the media workers, otherwise they would deviate from their contractual agreement with the electorate.

Comrade Faniran however used the medium to solicit the support of the Federal Lawmaker to ensure that the family ‘s name is written in gold at the Iyaganku Press Centre, the first in the annals of the Country.

In his vote of thanks, former aide to the Oyo State Governor, Hon Demola Solalu appreciated the Federal Lawmaker for his passion for service to humanity which is reflected in the various Constituency projects being executed by him periodically. He then urged him to ensure that the family name continues to reverberate among the populace.

In the entourage of the Chairman were the Vice Chairman, Comrade Olusola Ladapo ; Secretary, Comrade Bola Ogunlayi; Assistant Secretary, Comrade Adeola Oduola and former Special Assistant to Governor Ajimobi on Information, Hon. Demola Solalu.
