Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, on Tuesday met with workers of the Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH) Teaching Hospital, Ogbomoso, to address their ongoing industrial action, pledging immediate interventions to improve their welfare and the hospital’s operations.

During the meeting with professional bodies at the institution, the governor announced a series of measures, including the constitution of a Governing Council for the hospital before the end of the week, an increase of ₦35 million in the hospital’s monthly subvention, and the payment of accumulated promotion arrears of ₦219 million in three installments between October and December 2025. He also approved monthly stipends of ₦80,000 for 65 non-staff security personnel, who are to be integrated into the hospital system as ad-hoc staff.

Governor Makinde further assured that arrears of the new minimum wage covering January to August 2025 would be paid in three tranches within the same period. He added that long-term solutions to the hospital’s challenges, including completing the LAUTECH Teaching Hospital Annex in Oyo before 2027, would be pursued.

Welfare is important, but we must also make the state liveable for future generations,” he said.

After the hospital engagement, the governor visited the Soun of Ogbomoso, Oba Ghandi Afolabi Olaoye, announcing that his administration would soon commence the reconstruction of inner roads in the town. The monarch lauded Makinde’s developmental strides and his role in confirming new traditional rulers, including the Olubadan, the Alaafin of Oyo, and himself as Soun of Ogbomoso.

The governor was accompanied by top government officials, including former Speaker Monsurat Sunmonu, commissioners, and political aides.
